The Big Issue magazine
For 10 years I was the Lead Designer on The Big Issue, responsible for layout, picture research and production. I also assisted the Art Director (often acting as the Art Director, which involved designing covers). I sourced and commissioned photographers and illustrators, and helped to look after the budget with the Art Director. I successfully integrated the design team within Dennis Publishing, which involved implementing a new design process for the downsized team, and then again at Born Group London. I also worked on a redesign of the magazine, which led to PPA awards and increased circulation.
I designed Big Issue covers that were sold as artwork at Big Issue charity events. Integrated an offshore retouching team into The Big Issue which made production more effective for a weekly magazine; worked on The Big Issue and Big Issue Foundation’s identities, and made exhibition panels for HSBC and PR companies to create brand partnerships, which raised revenue for the company.
